Tips for Starting Your First Maze:

Maze Size and Location: Things to consider when planning your first maze include size, location, access and layout. We can help you determine a manageable size depending on your resources. Depending on your customer base,  you may not want your customers to be in the maze more than 45 minutes to an hour at most. After that, the fun may become frustration. The field should be somewhat level for easy walking. Expect families with strollers.

Preparation for Opening: Be sure to have easily accessible parking for your customers. If your field is far from the parking you may want to consider offering tractor-wagon rides to the maze. Most maze-goers enjoy the farm experience. Have port-a-pots nearby. Concession stands and outside vendors (Crafts, games etc.) are a good way to add to your profit. Drinks are a must. Advertise locally and on your website. As a customer, we will include your site on the Newtown Graphics site. We get thousands of hits every season. Use our full-color flyer, custom designed for your corn maze, for placing in local businesses, handouts and for advertising.

Running the Maze: The price you charge for admission will depend on your area and what other attractions you may have (pony rides, inflatables etc.). Tickets can sell from $3 to upwards of $12 or more. You may want to have staff available to wander through the maze to help the lost. Keep the paths clear of rocks and corn stubble. You don't want anyone tripping. If a side of your maze is close to a road, consider putting up fencing or tape to keep children safe.

Our Process:

Field Conditions: Because we use a zero-turn mower to cut the maze, it is important that our machine is able to get through your field. The zero-turn mower allows us to make highly accurate mazes with detailed designs. Some conditions that may hinder access to a field are deep ruts or furrows, rocks and wet areas. If you have any of these conditions, call us to determine what steps can be taken to provide you with a great maze design.

Design: The first step will be designing a maze with your ideas or our suggestions, that will fit your field and make the best use of your area. We'll send you a sample design at no charge, BEFORE you decide to you our service. We're confident you'll like our price and our work.

Planning: We will offer advice on how to plant your corn and the conditions we'll need to cut the design. Corn height, ground conditions etc. determine how we mark the design in your field. We'll keep in contact up to the day we come to your site.

Cutting: We come to your site when your corn is anywhere from 1 foot to 4 feet high. Depending on field conditions, we use our zero-turn mower to either cut or knock over the corn. We will give you an information sheet on methods for removing the corn stalks and/or stubble after we're done. Doing this step yourself is what keeps our costs low. Once the paths are cleared, your maze will be ready to go. Just sit back and wait for the corn to grow to full height.

Maintenance: You may have to do some maintenance work on your maze paths periodically. Keep the paths clear of weeds, rocks etc. and fill in holes.

Promotion: Use our full-color flyer design for advertising. Submit a press release to your local newspaper. If you have retail business or market, have handouts.
